The intensive courses
consists of 20 hours class per week. The classes are normally in the morning,
from Monday to Friday, 4 hours a day, but sometimes classes are scheduled in
the afternoon. There is a 30 minute break between classes, when you can have
a coffee, chat with your classmates, use the Internet in our computer room
or simply sit in the sun in our garden. |

levels, from Beginners to Proficiency, with an average of 6 students per
class (and a maximum of 8).

These courses are
designed for those people who cannot dedicate four hours a day to learning
Spanish, but who still want to learn quickly.
The semi-intensive course
consists of 10 hours of class per week, from Monday to Thursday (2.5 hours
per day) and students can choose between different timetables - either in
the morning or in the afternoon.
Mornings: 9.00 to11.30 - 11.30 to 14.00 h.
Afternoons: 15.30 to 18.00 - 18.30 to 21.00 h. |

The use of the Spanish
language is growing and it is becoming increasingly important to have an
official, internationally recognised diploma. Whether you work or are a
student, the value of knowing the Spanish language cannot be underestimated.
We have developed this course to prepare students to take the D.E.L.E. exams.
There are two exam sessions per year: one in November and and the other in
May. |

Preparation courses for the D.E.L.E. (Diploma
de español como lengua extranjera) exams
As there are two sessions
a year, The Lewis School offers 2
possible starting dates for these courses: 11th March 2002 and 16th
September 2002.
Each course consists
of 8 weeks of classes, 20 hours a week, from Monday to Friday. Nevertheless,
depending on your level of Spanish, the duration of the course can be
flexible. The normal timetable is from 9.30 a.m.to 2.00 p.m.but afternoon
classes are also available. There is a 30 minute break during the classes

Structure of the exams:
The three exams have the same structure and are divided into different areas
so that the student's knowledge can be assessed accurately.
- Use of grammar
and vocabulary: This part of the exam consists of a multiple choice
test, with questions about grammar and vocabulary.
- Text
comprehension:
You answer questions about a short text.
- Oral
comprehension: You answer questions about a listening text.
- Writing:
You have to write a composition such as a letter, etc.
- Oral interview:
The student attends an interview with an oral examiner.
You must pass all
sections of the exam in order to be awarded a certificate. |

This is
a long term course. The courses consists of three hours class per week and
are intended for people who either already live in Barcelona or who are
going to move to Barcelona for a long period and do not have a great deal of
time to study. Courses start every Monday between October and June except on
public holidays. |

group along with their school teachers. |

typical school group would stay with Spanish host families to encourage them
to practice Spanish and learn about Spanish culture. We organise a programme
of free time activities exclusively for them. We arrange for them to meet up
with our Spanish students of the same age and participate in a cultural
exchange with them - usually, before they arrive in Barcelona they have
exchanged letters and e-mails. |

In collaboration with the
teachers, we design a tailor-made course to suit the needs and interests of
each school and its pupils. The courses can start at any time of year and
usually range from 3 days to 8 weeks. |

Example of a special programme for adolescent
groups: *
- Day 1:
Arrival at the airport, tour of Barcelona. Families collect the students.
- Day 2:
Orientation session. Welcome party with our Spanish students of the same
age.
- Day3:
Trip to Figueres to visit the Dalí Museum.
- Day 4:
Spanish class. Trip round the emblematic Gaudí buildings.(Sagrada Familia,
Parque Güell). Tapas.
- Day 5:
Spanish class. Visit to the Barcelona F.C. Museum.
- Day 6:
Trip to Port Aventura.
- Day 7:
Trip to Montserrat. In the afternoon, cultural exchange with our Spanish
students. Disco for young people.
- Day 8:
Shopping in the city centre. Visit to the Picasso Museum. 'Chocolate con
churros' in the Gothic Quarter.
- Day 9:
Journey home.
